What I Like
For those people who complain about seeing the same ol' sites, here is something that should help guide your inspiration. The site's layout pretty much speaks for itself and the color scheme is very nice.
Grid? Who needs it.
What I Don't Like
Not necessarily the easiest site to read.

You've hit the reason (exactly) that I'm having such a hard time putting a nice design on my weblog. I don't want the same thing I see on every other blog. They're all really nice, but it's all so typical now. Nice to see someone doing it they're own way. Not sure I LOVE the design, but it's definitely a breath of fresh-air. So 2 thumbs up!
nick (http://phbz.org/quiblog/)
i like it tho there could be more consistency between the home page and content templates - thumbs up for at least making an effort :)

Very innovative style. A good example of how CSS have opened up a whole new world of possibilities. How could this have been done with plain Html? It poses some new design challenges. You have to find ways to direct people's attention through such a fluid page. It's more of a picture than a page. It works well here because it's mostly links and each section has fairly equal importance. Has her mother seen that webcam shot?
Tim (http://www. ambaka.com/)
I'm confused. This site is a featured entry with hundreds of validation errors and meh design, while some very stunning completely valid designs only get tossed into the "noteworthy" pile? How about an align="center", anyone? Different may be good if you're Arby's, but the front page has a serious case of information overload. Someone tell me how this is a good thing? This is hardly a site that should be a poster child of the great things CSS can do. If you look past the front page, the design is very nondescript. I've seen a lot worse, but I've definately seen a lot better.
chris
Nice design, but horrible code. What's the deal with all her div tags having ID's, but then her stylseheet has no entries for them, and all the styling is done inline?
Mike
this type of coding eliminates the reason I use CSS

I think it looks good - a nice departure from the usual two/three column blog appearence. The only part I dislike is the 'Spread Firefox' button, which looks out of place.
paul haine (http://joeblade.com/)
Hmmm, not too keen, but like you say it's different. The 'Cam portal' link is a bit odd, is it meant to be porno or something?
Alex
Yo yo, I can't view the site because i;m in the UAE and for some reason its blocked by my isp. Can anyone rip it and put it on another server so i can take a look. Thanks
baba
Ok, it looks different than your average blog-template, but it's far from original. I even find it a very ugly design (not even a real design). Also, the code doesn't validate. So why use css for a non-validate website? The girl abvious doesn't realy understand why to use css in the first place. I realy thought quality is a must in here. I hope this is the last 'different' design we"re going to see in here.
rob-ot (http://rob-ot.be)
Wow, this is fascinating! Someone just mentioned to me that my site was up on here. I just wanted to say a few things, both to do some explaining and a little to my own defense :) - I know it doesn't validate very well... it's a terrible shame and I don't really have an excuse for it other than a crapload of content from many sources/services, last-minute hacks, and PHP-Nuke generated code (yes, the site IS Nuke, just a seriously hacked up version of it, and you'll find that a lot of content areas are unedited Nuke modules... I take no responsibility for their code) - Yes, it may be blocked as an adult site considering I get naked and stuff, and the cam portal is often NSFW, so be careful ;) - The Spread Firefox button is there very temporarily to promote their campaign... I know it's a totally ugly spot - As far as content overload, that's kind of the point in this case. I've been living my life online for several years now (I'm actually going to be featured in an upcoming documentary) and there is a LOT of information to get across. My visitors (and myself) like to see all updates right away. Actually if you register, you'll get even more content on the home page - It's a very personal "brain dump" of a site... not necessarily meant to be the most professional, clean, or innovative design. I just felt blobby at the time and I still smile when I see it :) - The "camgirl" world is overrun by sites that look the same... I am definitely proud to have something different. 25k unique visitors a month so I can't complain Keep the comments coming, and maybe this'll motivate my ass to clean up that code sometime soon *laughs*
StephTheGeek (http://www.stephthegeek.com)
I'll give it creativity points, but there are definate areas for improvement. Mainly the typography and navigation. Firstly, the typography in most cases is very hard to read, especially the sideways headlines, and even many of the straight ones. I'm also not too keen on the dark text for headlines in the 'currently' section. Second, the navigation is almost impossible to find. This is my third visit and I just now found a way to get into other parts of the site. Maybe a bit more, uh... different than the other sections? I also think the only way into the journal is the read more link, or at least that's all I can find. The journal section seems similar to many two-column blog layouts with some soothing colors and nice curves. Nothing that bad there, except maybe the animated gifs, those seem a bit cheesy. The popups. This is the last thing. Why do they exist, and why so many? Why not keep consistent and use one layout for many of the sections like cam and email sections. Ok, I'm done. Just my two (maybe fifty) cents. Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh, I still like the site design, and am impressed with the creativity (not to happy with the porn though).
Jeff (http://nokrev.com)
Firstly, the typography in most cases is very hard to read (Noted. I've heard that once or twice, but it's my experience that this seems to only be the case on some particular monitor brightness settings... it's *very* clear on everything I've seen it on except for on one computer at school. I suppose it's like things like resolution... yes I am pretty much alienating people at <1024x768 resolutions, but I'm willing to make that sacrifice in order to have a better experience for the rest. I'd rather keep my colours subtle and I guess that runs a risk too) Second, the navigation is almost impossible to find. This is my third visit and I just now found a way to get into other parts of the site. (Teehee, awesome, that's kinda the point. I'm going even further with hidden stuff in the next version) The animated gifs (That's actually LiveJournal.com... the journal is a feed from there. They're a little out of place when you're viewing my journal on my site as opposed to LJ itself) The popups (Okay, I'm kinda confused there... what popups are there other than the cam and email? I guess the "about" and "why?" but that's just my preference as opposed to taking over a full page. I used to have them as tooltips but I decided to simplify)
StephTheGeek (http://www.stephthegeek.com)
I'm sorry to say ... but I'm not sure this is a site that should be added to CSSVault gallery at least because it has nothing to do with CSS webdesign.
M
"...it has nothing to do with CSS webdesign." Ahhh, the beauty of the internet. A place where anyone can make any kind of uninformed statement without even a hint of fact to back it. There's an advanced feature in most browsers now called "View Source". Try it sometime. If you STILL think this site has "nothing to do with CSS webdesign"....well, I'd like to see your definition of CSS (along with an example) because I'd say that we may be talking about 2 totally divergent things.
Spazholio
i think this is the worst entry i have ever seen on any one of these css gallery places... code is bad, design is bad... yuck!
a
"i think this is the worst entry i have ever seen on any one of these css gallery places... code is bad, design is bad... yuck!" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! *breathes* BWA-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Get back under your bridge, troll. While the code may not be the cleanest, I challenge you to show me another site that's got an equivalent level of thought to having a non-standard design. I'm not saying they're not out there, I just don't think you know of any and are just naysaying for the sake of being negative. PS - punctuation and capitalization are good things, mmmkay?
Spazholio
All I want to stress in regards to the validity of my site being here is what Tim hit on... this layout simply wouldn't have been possible without CSS. I've been slow to adopt CSS in my designs over the years for things other than text formatting, but I finally decided to go out there with something very unique and personal. I think it's a good example of how to not let generally accepted code/layout limitations stop you from creating what you envision.
StephTheGeek (http://www.stephthegeek.com)
Originality: 10/10 ....It's definately different! Looks: 6/10 .....Might work for some people, it's purely down to personal taste I suppose. Blobby appearence looks a bit clumsy, and it is all a bit random with no visual direction for the user. CSS: Inline isn't what I'd use, but if it does the trick, then no problem right? CSS has been used here as much as possible otherwise. Validity: The site fails on it's HTML coding rather than it's CSS. Content: ....I didn't get this far...the looks drove me away first. This looks more like a homepage than anything else....so it doesn't matter too much if Steph doesn't make this site valid and professional looking. It's not the best-looking of sites though, and should probably have been included in the 'noteworthy' category rather the main section. I think Steph is right to at least try to do something different with CSS and plenty of the blog sites are all starting to look the same and dull. Perhaps her future efforts will have more style though.
Matt
in regards to comment #20 when you refer to "non-standard design," are you referring to the visual design only?

I like it, because she's not following the masses with their CENTER ALIGNMENT. That needs to stop.

I like the fact that this design reminds me of a desktop full of widgets, even if it becomes a bit hard to sort through the information the first time you see the page. The only issue I had is that with a minimum font size above 9, which I believe is pretty common, the text overflows on some of the boxes. Other than that I think everything's already been said. It's certainly different and eye catching.
Diogo (http://nic-nac-project.de/~tenko)
The concept of your website is excellent. Only problem is you have presented it when it's not completed, yet. :) 1. Your layout of the entry page is fixed (as in non-flexible). I'm looking at it in a 17" screen with 1024x768 screen resolution and get scrollbars - imagine anyone with a 15" screen and 800x600 screen resolution. 2. Personally, I would like any link to change appearance when hovering them. The lack of this feature on your entry page makes it very much static. 3. Now, you need to implement the concept of "stepstones" - as on your entry page - to all of your website. 4. Don't worry about validation of code. Eventually it will validate. As I wrote, you're not finished with the site, yet. ;)
anothergeek
Hehe, I don't know if it's ever going to be complete :) But thank you for understanding. Strange that you're getting scrollbars on 1024, it has been specifically crafted to *not* do that and haven't seen it happen on a 1024 screen yet. Yes it was a big decision to alienate 800x600 and under, but it was the only way I could truly get my vision across. I've tossed around the idea of having the page slide into the left side, but nothing's materialized with that yet. Also, I've made sure to keep the other sections (forum, journal, galleries, etc) compatible with 800px wide. #2 is on the to-do list, I agree :) #3 would be wonderful in an ideal world, but Nuke isn't exactly the most flexible thing ever.. heh heh.
